Organic food consumption: Barometer 2009

Barometer 2009 in consumption of organic products

"The French suck at bio: he is no longer a fad but a trend, structural food consumption. "Eliane Patriarca wrote in the newspaper Liberation Friday, February 5, 2010.

"Never did the French claimed and consumed as much natural products but agriculture does not produce enough to meet this demand" ...

After my comment on the investigation of Que Choisir on prices of organic products (I should say organic products distributor brand), these are reassuring results published by Agence Bio, the public interest group for the promotion of organic farming.

The Bio Agency notes a historic change in 2009. Indeed, last year, the number of farmers who decided to "convert" to Bio jumped.

This is however not enough to meet demand but it is a good sign. If this demand continues to grow, production chains will realize the obvious move towards natural products and bio.

"If the organic is expensive, it is primarily because of market structure and organization of the supply chain," said Borloo, Minister of Environment.

We find that it is not always easy to buy organic products of French origin. Often these products are thousands of miles before landing on our plates and it is in complete contradiction with the ecological footprint concept.

Bio This is not just a matter of taste or health but also an environmental case. A state of mind emerges from this positive trend and France, with a productive agriculture for a long time, is one of European countries with the least cultivated bio.

In this generation we need to import natural products and multiplies the intermediate supply chain and therefore costs to final consumers.

The reduction in prices in the sector Bio therefore requires greater production and greater closeness between producer and consumer.

84% of French people would like Organic agriculture is developing in France ... 46% of French people ate at least once a month a product of organic farming in 2009 ... 9% use it every day ...

The figures speak for themselves and the progression is clear.

Francois Sergent (Liberation) wrote in its editorial of February 5 "And if the Bio was not only a dinette to sores or potion for vegetarians complexion as pale as tofu" ...

It's time to be convinced. In 2012, organic products will represent 20% of the composition of the menus of school cafeterias.

There is work to do ... bread Bio course.
